John Tastad is a chaplain at Sharp HealthCare in San Diego, California and currently serves as the Program Coordinator of Advance Care Planning for Sharp HealthCare, working to ensure that patient’s preferences for treatment and care are understood and honored. He also teaches bioethics to new employees at Sharp HospiceCare and serves on the bioethics committee at Sharp’s hospitals. Tastad is involved in policy and procedure development related to patient care, and speaks frequently to groups, organizations and students regarding advance care planning, bioethics and compassionate end-of-life care. Tastad spent the first portion of his career in church ministry upon completing a degree in Christian Education from Northwest Christian University. Of his experience, Tastad shares “at NCU, I was positively affected by many caring, skillful academic mentors that provided meaningful instruction and personal attention.”
