Kaitlyn Dara
Hometown and State: Grants Pass, OR
School or University Name: Corban University
Major: Convergent Media, Film
This scholarship has helped me pay for attendance to a school that I would not otherwise have been able to go to if not for all the people that have helped me along the way, including The Carpenter Foundation and The Alliance. Thank you for helping this working college student.
Why did you choose your college and major?
Corban was a place that was immediately meaningful to me - a place where I could feel God's presence, especially in the people that went there. As for my major, the field of media and film is broad, and I have always loved every part of it.
After graduation, I plan to…
Work as a graphic designer and art assistant.
Picture of my whole family wrestling each other in one, giant cradle train (except for my mom who took the photo). I am in the very middle (of 5).
Samantha Dara
Hometown and State: Grants Pass, OR
School or University Name: Corban University
Major(s): Business
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
Thank you for awarding me with the Carpenter Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship helps me be able to attend Corban University. I cannot express how thankful I am for your help in allowing me to attend such a great college that will set me up for future success.
After graduation, I plan to…
I am not sure exactly what career I want to pursue after college, but I have been thinking about either a job in management or switching my major to Biology and working in the health field while earning a minor in business.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose Corban University because I wanted to attend a college that would help me to grow in my faith as a Christian and would challenge me in my academics and athletics. I chose a business major because I know that it will open a lot of job opportunities for me after college and will teach me a lot of skills that will help me throughout my life.
Carlos Fuentes
Hometown and State: Central Point, OR
School or University Name: University of Portland
Majors: English, Environmental Science
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship meant so much to me because financial aid has always been a stressful topic, and any additional help allows me to focus on performing well in school and not worrying about additional concerns. I want to thank The Carpenter Foundation who have made this possible for me. I am grateful to know that they believe in me and want me to succeed. I will be able to work even harder in school in hopes on one day pursuing a career in journalism.
After graduation, I plan to…
After college, I want to pursue a career in investigative or in-depth reporting. During my time at UP, I have become involved with the student newspaper, The Beacon, and I have served as the copy editor the last two years. I want to tell stories that matter. I don't want a simple 9-5 desk job, but I want an exciting job where I can talk to others, listen to stories, and use my own skillset to amplify their voices to the world.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose the University of Portland because I grew up in southern Oregon and I knew that I wanted to stay in Oregon for my college career. I have always loved Portland, and this school has a beautiful campus and small class sizes, both of which I really appreciate. At this school, I can immerse myself in my academic and extracurricular activities, and I have grown tremendously as a scholar and a well-rounded individual as a result of this welcoming environment.
Darby Hammond
Hometown and State: Medford, OR
School or University Name: Willamette University

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship is meaningful to me because it allows me to continue to further my education and grow as an artist. This contribution allows me to be exposed to so many learning opportunities beyond my art, as well. My higher education is so important to me and to my future. Thank you so much for the Carpenter Foundation Scholarship.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose to study studio art because art is such an integral part of my life and I hope that, through my work, I can begin to connect with others and make the change that I want to see.
After graduation, I plan to…
After graduation, I plan to work closely with a community of other artists to develop my portfolio and possibly apply to grad school in pursuit of my MFA.
Cameo Hovis
Hometown and State: Grants Pass, OR
School or University Name: Bushnell University
Major: Interdisciplinary
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
Being able to pay for college has always been something that has concerned me. I wanted to earn my bachelor's degree, but I feared that it may be very difficult financially. Thank you very much for providing this scholarship. Scholarships from generous organizations, such as yours, have made my academic journey easier.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose Bushnell University for the small size of the school and because I felt God calling me to attend here. I decided to pursue Interdisciplinary Studies as it allows me to pursue a variety of academic interests.
After graduation, I plan to…
After graduation I hope to pursue a career that allows me to help other individuals. I may not know exactly what career I will settle on, but I know that I want to serve others.
Jordan Kuykendall
Hometown and State: Grants Pass, OR
School or University Name: Bushnell University
Major: Biology
Minor: Psychology
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship is meaningful to me because it helps me pay off the excess payments that I have from higher education. I work nights to help pay off student loans, but this scholarship helps me to relax and feel more comfortable about being able to afford school. I am also thankful for the opportunity to be able to receive these funds, it means a lot that I was selected! Thank you very much for everything!
After graduation, I plan to…
I plan to get my nursing degree and become an RN through an accelerated program.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose my college because it gave me the opportunity to play softball while earning my college degree. I decided to go with my major because I want to go into the medical field and I felt that Biology would give me the best foundation. I decided to go with a Psychology minor to have more knowledge on the different aspects of the brain that would help me understand personalities and the psychological aspects of the medical field.
Madison McKay
Hometown and State: Grants Pass, OR
School or University Name: Pacific University
Major: Psychology
Minor: Public Health
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship is incredibly meaningful to me because it means that I will be able to continue my education and pursue my passion of learning. I cannot thank the Carpenter Foundation enough for supporting myself and other student on their education journey. Thank you!
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose to major in psychology because I have always been curious about development and why people act the way they do. I chose to do this at Pacific University because I love the campus and felt welcome when I toured.
After graduation, I plan to…
Take a few years to travel and volunteer!
Jackson Rice
Hometown and State: Ashland, OR
School or University Name: Lewis & Clark College
Major: Philosophy
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
Thank you! Scholarships are incredibly important given the rising cost of college education. I'm grateful for all financial aid.
After graduation, I plan to…
Get a job in New York, most likely programming, and continue to study philosophy.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose philosophy as my major because the critical analysis of knowledge itself is important if I'm going to accept that knowledge in the first place. Though I am interested in math and science, philosophy seems to me a prerequisite to trusting the information I gain from the other two areas of study.
Kathia Zaragoza
Hometown and State: Medford, OR
School or University Name: Linfield University
Major: Nursing
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
I am sincerely grateful, honored, and appreciative that The Carpenter Foundation chose to invest in my future and award me this scholarship. Growing up in home where money was always scarce had its hardships, but I personally would not trade it for the world. It instilled within me the value of education and I am a firm believer that education is the key to a better future. With this scholarship, I am one step closer to my goals. Thank you!
Why did you choose your college and major?
I choose to attend Linfield University because the nursing program they have is the best in Oregon, and they were also very willing to put forth money in order to make my dream come true. As long as I can remember, I have always wanted to work in the medical field. I think being a nurse is a great option for me because there are a lot of different jobs within the nursing field.
After graduation, I plan to…
After I graduate, I plan to pursue a career as a traveling nurse. After a year or two, I would like to settle down and work as a hospital nurse or as a cosmetic nurse.
This picture of me was taken the first time I came to visit McMinnville and toured Linfield!
