Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose my university because I wanted to be in an intimate space of believers who would sharpen me and cheer me on in pursuing a faith-based education. I chose my major because I’ve always had a passion for science, and I felt that it would help me gauge how much interest I truly have in medicine.

Major: Nursing
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?

I plan to take my NCLEX to get my nursing license to work. With experience, I later want to become a scrub nurse or a travel nurse.
Why did you choose your college and major?
Nursing has been my passion ever since I was a kid. I saw my grandpa in the hospital with lots of nurses supporting him right alongside my family. They were willing to provide us and him with all the support they could give during his last days. Nurses give compassion, love, support, empathy, and many other emotions to their patients and family members. I want to be that nurse for my future patients and that is why I choose the path of nursing.

First, thank you so much for giving this amazing gift. It took me by surprise and the financial support is much needed. Hopefully go to law school! Of course, it’s much deeper than that, but that’s my main goal. I hope to become a criminal lawyer…or maybe a family law attorney, still debating.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose this college because, since I want to become a lawyer, it brings so many opportunities being right next to the capitol. Willamette is also a great community and since it’s a smaller school, students can get more help and a much deeper understanding from professors. Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
Thank you so much for this gift. This scholarship will provide me with the resources I need to further pursue my goals. I can't describe my appreciation in words, but just know that this will greatly help me and my family.
After graduation, I plan to…
I intend to go to a graduate/medical school and train to become a physician. It's my dream to help people and I feel the best way for me to do that is through a medical-related career. Although I’m undecided on the exact position I want to pursue, I'm confident that I'll discover my calling in due time.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose L&C because it is a beautiful school in a beautiful state. The surrounding nature and greenery reminded me of my home back on the island of Kaua'i. I also chose L&C because I had heard the students and the professors were kind and respectful. I have joined a wonderful community. As for my major, I chose biology because I was inspired by a close family member to pursue the medical field. Although I'm unsure if I really want biology as my major, I know I'm set on either that, chemistry, or biochemistry. In any case, my heart is set on STEM with the future purpose of joining the medical field.

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship was meaningful to me because it helped me pursue my dream of becoming an electrical engineer. Without generous support like that of the Costco Wholesale Scholarship, it would be much more difficult to pursue my dream. Thank you for aiding me in pursuing my dreams with your generous support!
After graduation, I plan to…
Getting a job after I graduate is my main goal. I want to learn new skills and further my knowledge so I can advance my career in electrical engineering. After spending a few years in the industry, I may go to graduate school to help further my knowledge. I will then look to see if I can get a job at a big company like Texas Instruments, Apple, or Intel.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose the University of Portland because I liked the close-knit community and knew I would fit right in. The small classes also make it easier for me to get to know professors personally. I learn better in these kinds of environments, so I knew that the University of Portland was the perfect choice for me. I chose my major because I have always been interested in electronics. I have been fascinated by electronics since I was very young, and always wanted to know how to design my own. An electrical engineering degree will allow me to do this, and much more.

Elizabeth LeJeune
Hometown and State: Lakewood, CO
School or University Name: Lewis & Clark College
Majors: Mathematics, Chemistry
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship is incredibly significant to me because, without it, I would not be able to afford attending college. I'm so grateful for this monetary support, which has allowed me an honestly life-changing four years at a wonderful, supportive school. Thank you so much to those who help organize this scholarship and especially thank you to Costco Wholesale for making my college experience possible. Your generosity truly means the world to me.
After graduation, I plan to…
I don't currently have solid plans for after graduation. I'm interested in traveling because I didn't get the chance to study abroad because of COVID-19. I might apply for graduate school, but I can't decide if I want to pursue math or chemistry. I might work in a chemistry research lab for the time being while I decide on higher education.
Why did you choose your college and major?
Lewis & Clark College is a small, liberal arts school with incredibly supportive staff and peers. The area is gorgeous, and I feel right at home in Portland. I've always loved math, so I knew for years that I wanted to continue studying it. The math department at this school is solid, passionate, and so kind, so it's easy to want to continue working with my professors and peers. As for chemistry, the department is equally supportive and passionate about not only the subject but also the students. I also had a great summer working in an organic chemistry lab, so I decided to continue my studies and double major in chemistry.

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship is meaningful to me because I’ve been working hard my whole academic career, while being a student athlete, dealing with family troubles, and having my own personal mental health struggles. Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose Bushnell because going to a school that cares about their students on a personal level is very important to me. Becoming a psychology major came late in my academic career, but was no brainer because I am intrigued about how the brain works and why people do the things they do.
Maria Marquez

Minor: English Language Arts
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
First, I am honored to be one of this year's recipients of the Costco Wholesale Scholarship. This scholarship was meaningful because it helped me reduce my tuition and gave my parents a sense of relief. Since COVID-19 began, we have been worried about this year's tuition cost and other university expenses, such as books. The Costco Wholesale Scholarship has helped me save money for future school tuition payments and additional university fees. Thank you for your generosity in funding the Costco Wholesale Scholarship. Your willingness to help students continue their education makes all the difference for first-generation students like me. Thank you!
Why did you choose your college and major?
I moved to this country when I was twelve years old. In my middle school, there were some student-teachers. When they presented themselves, they said what university/college they were attending. My student-teacher was attending Linfield College. I always remembered that name. Then when I visited my aunt for the first time in twelve years, I saw Linfield on the other side of the traffic light and my family drove by Linfield many times. Whenever I would visit my aunt and pass by Linfield University, it felt like I belonged there. I felt a need to attend that college. Although I never visited, I knew that Linfield was going to be home. Linfield was my dream college. I chose the Education major because, since I was a little girl, I wanted to help children master concepts and find their passions. Also, when I moved to this country, my teachers helped me in innumerable ways. So, I always wondered how to thank them, and I soon realized that I could do so by following their pedagogical model. As a thing of the destiny, I had a Hispanic teacher in high school that attended Linfield, and he told me that they had a great Education program. And here I am, making sure I will have a classroom full of happy and energized students in the future.
After graduation, I plan to…
After graduation, I plan to teach at any local elementary school that has an open position for first to fifth grader teachers. After teaching at an elementary level, I want to teach at a middle school level. I want to teach in the middle school I once attended. I will also be looking for pedagogical and non-pedagogical volunteer opportunities within my school and community. Another thing I plan to do after I teach for several years, is to visit countries that need educators. As I spend more time teaching, I will have more goals to add to my list.

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship is meaningful to me because it has helped me continue my education at Linfield University. I am so close to completing my education at Linfield and I would like to thank you for this scholarship. You have given me a sense of financial security and have allowed me to keep focusing on my education.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose Linfield University because it's close to home and I wanted a small campus community. Due to the small campus size, I can connect better with professors, which helps me further my education and get the help I need.
After graduation, I plan to…
After graduation, I plan to work in public accounting and study to become a CPA. I would like to give back to my community by offering my tax services to the Latino Community in Spanish, the language they feel the most comfortable communicating in. After graduation I plan to either go for my masters at Seattle University, as they offer a Sports and Entertainment master’s degree. I would love to be a part of the operations side of sports, connecting and creating last relationships with people and players.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose this college because I believe in a Christian education before I go out into the world and work. Corban University also offered my major (Sports Management and Administration). Corban University is also close to my hometown, only a 3-4 hour drive from Kirkland, Washington. When I visited, I fell in love with the campus and the education it offered.
Lucia Saldaña
Hometown and State: Salem, OR

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
As a first-generation student of immigrant parents, paying for, or let alone attending college, was not always part of my future. As I got older, I realized how important it is to go to college, so I am able to provide for my family while working in a field that I care about. This award has tremendously helped me pay for my education and I want to thank everyone who was able to make this possible!
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose Willamette University because I wanted to be able to receive a liberal arts education that would allow me to become more socially responsible. Yolanda Sanchez-Fausto
Hometown and State: Forest Grove, OR
School or University Name: Pacific University
Major: Psychology
Minor: Spanish
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
As a recipient of the 2021-2022 Costco Wholesale Scholarship, I wanted to first thank you for funding this scholarship. As a sophomore at Pacific University, planning on majoring in psychology, I needed extra funding to continue my education. I was close to dropping out due to insufficient funds. Yet, this opportunity has been a major blessing in not only being able to continue my career path but also follow my dreams without having to stress about how I will pay for my tuition. This scholarship means more than the absolute world and I am thankful every day for your support. Thank you so much for helping a first-generation, Latina college student in not only making her dreams come true but helping her with the funds needed for college.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose to attend Pacific University because it was close to home and I love the beautiful campus. As for my major, I chose psychology because the feeling of helping others is super rewarding. I would love to give back to my community as well as my family.

Kimberly Siguaque-Blanco
Hometown and State: Tualatin, OR
School or University Name: Linfield University
Major: International Relations
Minor: Spanish
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
The scholarship means so much to me because with it I am unable to continue pursuing my dream of attaining my bachelor’s degree. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in making this happen for me. Not only do I personally appreciate it, but my family does as well. I am a first-generation student who is trying to set the bar high for the next generation and, with this scholarship, it’s possible. Therefore, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose to attend Linfield University because of the small class sizes and the connections I made with the professors. When I applied to the Linfield, I wasn’t set on going to a small school, but after touring there I realized how beneficial it would be for my personal education to be in a setting where I can get the one-on-one focus that I need from a professor. With that one-on-one help, I chose international relations as my major. When I first started at Linfield, I thought I wanted to do pursue a different area of study, but after being unhappy and talking to the right people, I concluded that it’s okay to change your mind and do something that ultimately makes you happy. I chose international relations because I have always found a deep appreciation for politics, but also for foreign affairs. I think that this world is too small to just focus on American politics. There’s so much more out there that makes the world work the way it does, and I would love to eventually be a moving piece in that.
After graduation, I plan to…
After graduation my dream is to work for Amnesty International in different parts of the world.
Gabrielle Tata-Rodrigues
Hometown and State: Salem, OR
School or University Name: Corban University
Major: Pre-Med
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
I cannot thank you enough for this scholarship. It's been a tough year with COVID being a factor in our everyday lives and, just like everyone else, the pandemic has taken a toll on me and my family. Prior to attending school, I had depended on my athletics and of course academics to pay for most, if not all, of my expenses. After moving onto campus, I learned that you could not stack athletic scholarships. This was a big shock to me, being that I was willing to put myself through two sports if it meant paying for school. I had to take action fast and request a loan. This scholarship supports my financial needs and takes a huge weight off of my shoulders. I am so very grateful to be receiving this scholarship.
Why did you choose your college and major?
First, I chose to major in biomedical sciences because I want to become a Radiologist in the future and then later on open my own clinic. I want to be able to make a difference in the community in providing adequate care to those who are in need and to sustain healthy relationships. I actually wasn't planning on attending Corban until an opportunity presented itself as a wrestling scholarship. If it wasn't for wrestling and the help it’s also provided me, then I don't know where I would be.
After graduation, I plan to…
After graduation, I plan to attend medical school to further my education in Radiology and to complete an internship.

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
Thank you very much for choosing me as a recipient of the Costco Wholesale Scholarship. I really appreciate the effort to help me continue my education in psychology so that I can become a therapist for young adults and children. With the hardship of losing my father, financial stability is a worry, but this scholarship helps to ease that burden. Thank you, once again, in aiding me in pursuing this degree so that I can achieve my goal to assist others through therapy.
After graduation, I plan to…
I plan on going to graduate school so that I can become a counselor.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose George Fox University because I liked their motto that students would "Be Known" on campus by their professors and peers for who they truly are. At George Fox, there is a wonderful sense of community which has encouraged me in my pursuits and led me to develop essential skills for my life and future career. I chose psychology as my major because I had a therapist in high school that made a profound difference in my life. Likewise, I want to be of similar aid to children and young adults. I knew that the psychology major would give me the best knowledge to become a counselor in preparation for graduate school.

Thank you for your support! My goal in life is to earn my bachelor’s degree and make it count. College is such a financial roller coaster and, with this scholarship, I am able to continue working toward my dream in getting that bachelor’s degree with fewer twist and turns.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose Pacific because it is close to home, it has a welcoming environment, and is full of staff that have so much care and love for their students (especially those in the music department!). I have had an amazing circle of piano instructors, vocal coaches, and choir directors that have taught me so much about music and how to use my voice.
After graduation, I plan to…
Start my adult life and get myself settled into something stable (car, apartment, a job that pays the bills) and then start auditioning for theatre and vocal opportunities, as well as posting videos on all my social media to get my voice and face out to the public.
