Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?

This scholarship is very meaningful to me as it has provided me with the opportunity to attend college at an affordable cost. One of my parents is disabled, as my mother is in a wheelchair, and the other parent receives a low income from their employment. Without financial aid, it would have been extremely difficult, if not impossible for me to pay for my college education. That said, I am eternally grateful for any financial aid I have received over the past 4 years. Thank you to the donors of the Costco Wholesale Scholarship for helping me to achieve my dreams.

Why did you choose your college and major?

I chose Bushnell University for the opportunity to receive a private college education and experience. Considering that Bushnell University is a small college, I knew that I would be able to have a close relationship with my professors and peers. Also, I had the opportunity to play collegiate soccer at Bushnell, and I was extremely interested in competing in sports at the NAIA level. I chose to pursue a bachelor's in psychology because of my background and interests. I have always prioritized mental wellness, and I am hoping to be able to provide mental health services to others. As a college athlete, I have been able to closely observe the importance of mental health professionals and the implementation of sports psychology practices.

After graduation, I plan to…

Participate in a Sports Psychology Master’s Program, or I plan to participate in Bushnell University’s School Counseling Master’s Program. I am not entirely sure which program I will commit to, but I am dedicated to continuing my education. Either way, I hope to utilize my education in a way that allows me to work with high school and college athletes on a personal level.

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?

First, I want to express my sincere gratitude for considering me for this incredible opportunity. I can’t express how much this means to me in funding for my education and how this scholarship will help pay for my education. Additionally, my parents work so hard to support me and my family this couldn’t have been better to release a significant burden. Also receiving this scholarship has motivated me to do big things after school, and I hope to give back to my school in the future. Thank you again for your generous support.

Why did you choose your college and major?

I have chosen Bushnell as my home for the past four years because off the bat it was a sign that God was commanding me to follow. After I completed high school, I was lost, and I didn’t know what I was going to do after college. A month before school started, I got offered a position at Bushnell which then was skeptical about until I learned more about school and what the school had to offer to me. A few days later I then committed to Bushnell and onto my last year.

After graduation, I plan to…

After graduation, I plan to move back to Hawaii to pursue construction engineering to apply what I’ve learned in the classrooms and on the field as a baseball player in my next chapter of life. To advance in the industry and progressively climb the career ladder from there. Attending Bushnell has provided me with a solid foundation to set my wings in the real world.

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?

First, I want to thank you for the amazing opportunity you have given me. Thank you alone isn't even the right word to use, because I'm more than grateful; this opportunity blesses me. When I first saw the message that I was chosen, I could not believe it! I had to read it four to five times. I yelled in excitement and thanked you and the Lord for this wonderful news. This scholarship will help me with a variety of costs, such as my textbooks and the online courses I have to take this year. I am a full-time student, and the cost of these textbooks and online resources the professors use adds up to a lot, especially when you have a full-time schedule in management and political sciences. Professors tend to use these online resources on a daily basis. And because of you, I will be able to pay for them on time and not have to worry about the expenses or having to take out a loan. I truly appreciate you for considering me. I am forever grateful for this, and I thank you for helping me in building my bright future.

Why did you choose your college and major?

I chose this career to one day have my own business in real estate. I went with a management concentration because I knew that to be able to help people, I needed to learn the valuable skills to manage people. With good management comes a successful company. And what better way to do it than at George Fox, where the professors are willing to help you, which is one of the main reasons I chose to go there. The first visit I made to George Fox was very inspirational because as soon as I stepped onto campus, I felt my calling to be there. With a great career comes great people, and to be able to be great in mine, I need to learn from professors who are willing to connect individually with me, and that's exactly what I am getting at George Fox.

After graduation, I plan to…

After graduation, I plan to continue my education and real estate business. Now that I have gotten enough training and courses in management and political science, I intend to continue my management career by managing my own business. Although it will take a couple of years, I know that based on the years I have spent at George Fox, I have tremendously grown. I know what it means to be able to manage a great company and how to avoid management in a negative aspect. I’m taking all the skills I have learned during my time at George Fox and putting them to use in a Hispanic-based real estate company that will be there for the Hispanic community. I want to change the community I am from and change the way the Hispanic community views real estate. I know that I can make this change now, and because of your donation and contribution to this school year, I know that I will be able to be that change in this Hispanic community. I will be able to continue my education this year without having to worry about how I will pay for my books or online courses. I truly am very thankful you chose me, and I would just love for you to know that it’s going into great hands and is going to be used very thoughtfully, not only for my future but for my Hispanic community's future as well.

College or University Name: George Fox University

Class standing: Senior
Pronouns: she/her

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?

I clearly remember exactly where I was and the amount of joy, gratitude, and relief I felt when I found out I received this scholarship and nearly cried.
Pursuing higher education has been extremely challenging for me as both a first- generation college student and coming from a lower-class family. This scholarship has greatly impacted my experience at college this year by removing the stress of paying for school and allowing me to focus on finishing strong. So thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I appreciate this opportunity far more than I can convey.

Why did you choose your college and major?

I chose to go to George Fox University because it is close to people I care about, and I truly felt the Be Known Promise while visiting and in communication after applying. I felt supported personally, academically, and financially. When choosing my major, I explored a few different options before deciding on Organizational Communication with a minor in Cinematic Arts as well as a Business Analytics Certificate. I chose this path because I have a wide array of interests and a passion for maximizing my time here. Through my studies, I get to learn about things that make me happy while also gaining skills to set me up for success in the future regardless of the field I choose to go into.

After graduation, I plan to…

Currently, I’m exploring several possibilities for my path after graduation.
While my primary plan is to enter the field of marketing, I’m also open to returning to school to deepen my expertise or branch into new areas. If I do pursue further education, I’d aim to build on my existing knowledge while also learning something new. Recently, I’ve developed a strong interest in health and fitness, so I’m considering additional studies in this field as well!

College or University Name: Lewis & Clark College
Major: Psychology
Minor: Hispanic Studies
Class standing: Senior
Pronouns: she/her

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?

I would like to thank the donors who contributed to this scholarship for allowing me to continue and complete my higher education. Without financial support I would not be able to graduate with my bachelors degree and honors status as I intend to do this fall. The gift of attending Lewis & Clark has endowed me with the privilege of building and maintaining a beautiful community in which I have grown, learned and evolved immensely with the guidance of invaluable mentors, professors, and friends. I will carry with me the connections and memories I have gained throughout these four years for the rest of my life.

Why did you choose your college and major?

I chose Lewis & Clark because of its well reputed psychology department, low professor to student ratio, emphasis on outdoor adventure and outstanding overseas programs. Coming from a Waldorf education, Lewis & Clark's smaller student body and emphasis on student-professor relationships appeared familiar enough for comfort but different enough to allow for growth. I knew I would not be treated as a number and that I personally would learn best in the kind of environment where participation and communication was welcomed and encouraged. I was drawn to the study of psychology due to my personal experience witnessing my parents' divorce, my feelings around being adopted and a desire to help others build tools to deal with the internal ramifications of external traumas or struggles. As I have progressed in my studies here at Lewis & Clark my curiosity and passion for psychology as well as learning in general has flourished and grown. A connection with my Spanish professor Cecilia Benenati inspired me to continue my hispanic studies education eventually leading me to spend the spring semester of my junior year in Spain. There I managed to reach fluency in Spanish and I have expanded my worldview and intercultural awareness tenfold. Without the support and generosity of donors I would have never had the opportunity to accomplish these goals nor would I have made these incredible connections. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you have shaped my present and future enormously.

After graduation, I plan to…

Move to Spain and continue my education by earning a masters in social psychology at the University of Granada. I hope to use the incredible opportunities I have been given to better social programs in Spain and provide mental health support for all members of the community. While earning my masters degree I will teach English to native Spanish speakers in order to supplement my income.

Your support has strengthened my motivation to continue working hard in school, especially during a time when balancing my academic responsibilities with personal challenges has been difficult. I have faced obstacles related to a movement disorder that limits my mobility, making everyday tasks and schoolwork more challenging. Additionally, my mother’s passing three years ago placed a significant financial strain on my family, making this scholarship even more meaningful.
This generous scholarship brings me closer to achieving my goal of earning a degree in public health, where I hope to make a positive impact on communities in need. Thank you again for your generosity and for supporting students like me on our journeys.

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?

The 2016 Presidential Election happened during my first year of middle school. Despite being extremely opinionated (which has echoed throughout the rest of my adolescence), I was somewhat of a shy and timid child. This changed after my social science teacher decided that students in his class were required to follow the presidential election. At first, the political jargon and election laws confused me, as I was only ten and had no clue what the electoral college did or how the economy functioned. Yet this simple requirement blossomed into a passion for social and environmental justice as I became extraordinarily attentive to the political climate surrounding me; questions involving immigration, environmental concerns, and racial injustices piqued my interest. At the end of the sixth grade, my heart dreamt of becoming an attorney--hoping to solve one piece of the complex puzzle this country must conquer--and it has not changed since. This scholarship is helping my dreams come to fruition, allowing me to continue my path to further education at Willamette University, relieving some of the financial burden my parents and I have faced. Thank you for entrusting me with this opportunity, as I am incredibly appreciative and grateful to be a recipient of this award.

Why did you choose your college and major?

Willamette University's proximity to the Oregon State capitol has allowed me to participate in the legislative process firsthand, and has contributed to my ever-growing love for social justice. In addition to the liberal arts experience the university has to offer, I have been able to participate in numerous campus organizations and clubs, which has allowed me to explore some of my other passions, such as journalism. Choosing to major in politics, policy, law & ethics (PPLE) wasn’t a difficult decision for me, as I knew I wanted to continue some of the advocacy work I had done in high school, along with learning more about the political histories, contemporary movements, and stories which have contributed the current cultural/political environment of the nation.

After graduation, I plan to…

Attend Law School & become an attorney!
