It is an honor to have recieve the 2024-2025 Alliance Scholarship. As a junior Communication major, this scholarship has meaning to me because it enables me to continue to pursue my education career with fewer financial burdens. I can focus more on my academic growth, especially where I plan to make an impact. This scholarship represents an opportunity and investment in my future, and I am grateful. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting me in reaching my goals.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose Bushnell University because it offers an inclusive community. I can be in a class where I can interact with professors and students and feel heard. Bushnell University offers a communication program, which aligns with my passion for understanding how people interact and how messages influence society. Bushnell University is also a Christian University where I can also focus on my spiritual journey and not be afraid to ask questions about the bible. The campus atmosphere, diverse students in Eugune, Oregon, and the opportunities for hands-on learning in my field were all factors on why I chose to commit to Bushnell University.
After graduation, I plan to…
After graduating, I plan to use my experience from my communication classes and find job opportunities where I can apply what I have learned at Bushnell University and make an impact. After graduating, I want to work with groups of people where I can promote clear, impactful, and ethical communication to share ideas and help others make positive impacts for communities.
In this photo I met and made new friends Savaun and Maria from Bushnell University. We went to Crumbl to buy some cookies after orientation day! We spent the weekend rafting, bowling, and attended Sunday worship at a church together.

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
I want to thank you for granting me this wonderful scholarship. I am truly honored to be one of the recipients. I am a first-generation college student, and by bestowing this scholarship, you are supporting my dream of being the first in my family to attend college. I have just started my freshman year at George Fox University, and I plan to complete a Biochemistry degree. I believe that I am very fortunate to be able to attend George Fox University, because they have an amazing Biochemistry program. Once again, thank you for the vote of confidence and for believing in me. I am truly grateful to be a recipient of the NW Natural Scholarship.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose to attend George Fox University because of the amazing community, the beautiful campus, and the great Biochemistry program. When I visited George Fox, I knew this is where I needed to be. I chose to major in Biochemistry because I have always been interested in science, but also because I would like to attend medical school after graduation.
After graduation, I plan to…
After graduation, I plan to attend medical school in hopes of becoming a pediatrician. I have always wanted to attend medical school because I want to help people, whether they just need a check-up, or something else is wrong. I want to make a difference, and I know that being a pediatrician is where I would shine.

College or University Name: Lewis & Clark College
Major: Chemistry
Minor: Spanish
Class standing: Junior
Pronouns: he/him
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship is meaningful to me because ever since I was little my dream was to go to college and become a doctor. This scholarship helps me get one step closer to achieving my goal and making my parents proud. I would like to thank both the Alliance and NW Natural for this scholarship and opportunity to continue my education with their aid.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose Lewis & Clark College because it is an amazing school academically and has a great student to professor ratio where I am more than just a number or tuition check unlike many large schools. Lastly, because coach Bushman and the Lewis & Clark football program gave me the opportunity to live out my other dream of being a collegiate athlete. I chose my major because of the experience I had in high school where I had a chemistry teacher that helped open my eyes to the world of chemistry.
After graduation, I plan to…
Go to medical school at either OHSU or UC San Francisco where I plan to become an orthopedic surgeon and hopefully help athletes recover from injury like my surgeon did when I tore my meniscus in high school.

Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
With the financial help I feel as if a weight has been lifted off of my shoulder. As I approach the end of my undergraduate journey I am extremely grateful to have one less thing to worry about now and can focus more of my time and effort into my academics. Thank you to the Alliance-NW Natural Scholarship for allowing me to achieve my academic goals.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I've always been interested in biology and I knew by choosing Pacific I would have a great opportunity to explore my interest. Pacific also allowed me to stay close to home and I knew that was a big point of interest in my college choosing experience.

After graduation I plan on furthering my education and go into something in the healthcare field whether that be research related or patient care. I am currently looking into radiology or genetic counseling.
Michael Flores
School or University Name: University of Portland
Major: Marketing
Class Standing: Senior
Pronouns: he/him
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship is meaningful to me because it allows me to pursue an education with less of a worry about tuition. I already take out loans to pay for school, but it would be much worse without scholarships like this one. I am thankful to every donor because without them, many people wouldn’t even be able to get an education.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose the University of Portland because of the community and size of the school. UP is a small school when comparing it to large state schools like the University of Oregon. I like the fact that it is a small school because it feels like a tight knit community. Marketing wasn’t always the major I planned on pursuing, but it was something that has been in the back of my mind. Growing up, I liked thinking about how brands are able to get people to engage with their products. As a kid I didn’t know marketing was a major that existed but once I found out about it, I decided to pursue it.
After graduation, I plan to…
I would like to pursue digital marketing. The world is moving toward a more technologically heavy future, so I want a job where I have to do something with social media or the online world of marketing.

College or University Name: Warner Pacific University
Major: Accounting
Minor: Business Administration
Class standing: Senior
Pronouns: she/her
Why was this scholarship meaningful to you?
This scholarship is meaningful to me because I don’t come from money. My family has not been well off. I started working at 16, I learned fast how expensive things are. I was worried to attend college. But financial aid and scholarships have help me so much. I wouldn’t have been able to go to college without it. Thank you for providing this scholarship for me and other students. It truly means a lot to know someone cares and wants me to reach my goals.
Why did you choose your college and major?
I chose WPU because I heard great things and it was smaller college. I liked that classroom sizes were smaller and the environment. My major is accounting. I changed it a few times. I love the knowledge and challenge accounting classes have been on me. I also love the business classes and have had a great experience learning.
After graduation, I plan to…
After graduation, I plan to see where life takes me next. I plan on getting into a great accounting firm. Finally learning the business in a firm. I also would like to move somewhere warm. Also, looking into starting a business. I’d love to own my own business. Oregon will always be home to me. I hope to be successful and give back one day.
