I am a first-generation student from a large family; University education has never been super plausible for me. Being blessed with scholarships is the only way that I have been able to attend higher education. I am beyond thankful for the support to make this happen and allow me to be given options that were otherwise unavailable. Thank you!

I chose Bushnell University because of the connection I felt with the faculty and staff, coaches and teachers were beyond welcoming. I have felt extremely seen and valued and it encourages me to keep going every day.

Work in a field that will be enjoyable.

The scholarship is meaningful because it lowers the financial strain on my family and burden that I will carry after college. My family has been financially struggling due to surgical costs, health related issues, and unsteady jobs. Thank you for making my family’s situation easier by contributing financially to my education.

I always have had a deep love for science and for God. To me science was proof that there is a God and while I love history, philosophy, and theology, science was something I always had a deep interest in. America is a post-Christian country that uses a pseudoscience as the basis for ignoring the God question. True science reveals the complexity and nature of God. The complexity of DNA replication and the intricacy of the human body, down to the atom, reveals this. Many people do not care to learn about how miraculous their existence really is and as a result it is important for Christians to receive this education, in a society that believes science and God are opposing forces. This major and minor were not necessarily a choice, but a requirement, a calling that will aid me in the next phases of life and my goal to reach those who use science as an excuse to ignore God.

After graduation I plan to take a year off from school to collect hours for Graduate School and to access my options. As of right now I plan to become either a Physician Assistant or a Genetics Counselor to be able to get certified in Functional Medicine. This would enable me to help people prevent illness and disease naturally through screening, diet, and exercise. I am not opposed to other options if I feel called into a different field such as Physical Therapy, Dentistry, or a Registered Dietitian. There is also the possibility of acquiring my Master’s in Religion and Science before I enter a Medical Program. Nothing is set in stone, but I am excited for the future that God is leading me into. I am studying business and music both as a double major. This is a heavy semester, but I am carrying the weight. I have 21 credits this semester and 21 credits next semester and hoping to get a Master’s in Business Sciences and a Bachelor’s in Music Performance and maybe Saxophone. I am working on getting plugged into a local church but right now with my double major plus working with my dad as a consultant it has been slower. I currently do theatre, band, chamber choir, and ensemble choir. Music helps me balance my schoolwork by keeping me motivated. Thank you one more time for the scholarship toward my education, I have so many things I can use this for like reeds for my Saxophone and books for next semester.

I chose Corban because I prayed about what God wanted me to do and it lined up perfectly with my goals and aspirations. I aspire to be a businessman and make money for God in creative ways.

After graduation, I plan to continue working at whatever I’m a part of and stewarding whatever businesses and resources that I have accumulated. Hopefully, I can gain assets and create wealth.

I chose GFU because I want to further my education with Christ at my center and I value the strong morals and heart that the nursing program at Fox holds. I chose a nursing major because of the non-traditional way I grew up and experiences I had sparked a strong desire for me to want to help others and empower my future.

Become a travel nurse and experience what life looks like across the country.

Many of my friends at school do not have the financial benefit of scholarships like I do. When I talk with them about struggling to make enough money to pay their tuition and having to consider tough choices like selling a car to afford one more year, or weigh the benefit of an over the table job versus losing their food stamps I sympathize, but cannot relate to their struggles. Having this scholarship has allowed me to be able to only worry about school, and not have any additional financial stress. For this I am very thankful, and it has inspired me to give myself, to people in my community and to people overseas that I do not know personally, but I know are suffering the destruction of their home and entire nation.

Lewis & Clark’s location was a big plus for me when choosing the school. As someone who enjoys outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, and boating, going to LC and living in Portland has allowed me to do all of these things. In my years here I have made many memories rafting on the Deschutes, Clackamas, and White Salmon rivers with my friends, going night skiing at Mt. Hood after class, and discovering many of the beautiful views that Oregon has to offer. I came to Lewis & Clark fairly confident I would be a biology major, due to being raised to appreciate the value of the natural world and also learning of the threats that face it. I saw a biology degree as something which would allow me to both work in outdoor spaces and work to keep them in a condition benefiting humans and nature. Being a student at LC has directly helped me achieve this goal even before graduation through research opportunities related to forest ecology in southwest Washington (2022) and in the western Amazon Rainforest most recently this last summer.

After graduation I look forward to being able to follow any path that inspires me, and currently I am considering several. One option is returning to a job in wildland fire. Summer break only encompasses a portion of the ever lengthening fire season and not having to return to school would allow me to work a full season. Three years ago I worked on an engine crew in Eastern Oregon and if I went back to fire it would interest me to join a handcrew and maybe even a hotshot crew. A longer term plan of mine is going to school to be an EMT / Paramedic. Working as a firefighter paramedic is a career I have been considering for some time and even if I do not remain in that area, the training will be to my benefit in any job and daily life.

Thank you for the investment in Linfield University and students like me. This scholarship is meaningful to me because I come from a middle-class family, so this was necessary to further my education.

I chose Linfield University because of the football program. Linfield Football has a history of success and I wanted to be an athlete while achieving my educational goals. I love the campus and I chose my major because I have a passion for sports and the industry will always have opportunities for career advancement.

After graduation I plan to find work in athletics and sports management to continue my passion for sports.

This scholarship is meaningful to me because it allows me to continue to attend Pacific University and get a college degree. I am incredibly grateful to be awarded the Alliance Carpenter Foundation Scholarship because this past spring my future was filled with uncertainty. I was met with rising costs and was considering transferring or taking a gap year. But I was reassured that there were scholarships and other options available to me. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to continue my education.

I chose Pacific University because I originally wanted to pursue a degree in Kinesiology, but after my first semester I realized that music was where my heart was. I have since found an even deeper passion for my instrument and am part of multiple different performing ensembles on campus, including the Chamber Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra. Outside of school ensembles, Pacific gave me the opportunity to perform in the pit orchestra with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, OR, in their production of Into the Woods! This experience was life changing because it cemented the fact that I want to continue performing.

After I graduate, I plan to attend graduate school to pursue a MM in Viola Performance along with a MA in Arts Administration.

I am honored and grateful for this opportunity because this scholarship has been beyond meaningful to me. I am a first-generation college student, and the Carpenter Foundation Scholarship has helped support me throughout my educational career, allowing me to focus on my academics and not think about the constant worry of financial loans. Without this generous gift, I may not have been able to continue my education at the University of Portland, which has become a second home to me the past four years. As I finish my last and final year, I want to thank the donors from the bottom of my heart. Words cannot express how grateful I am for this amazing opportunity and generous gift which has helped me succeed and pursue my dreams.

I chose the University of Portland because of the close-knit community and environment displayed during my first tour visit. Upon my first visit, I immediately felt welcomed and invited to be a part of the community at UP. I was a quiet senior in high school and intimidated by the new world I would have to face in college. The staff and students I met during my visit were personable and they presented me with so many connections and opportunities which would ultimately push me forward in pursuing a career in physical therapy. I decided to major in biology and minor in integrative health and wellness as well as exercise science. All three of these topics show me the different aspects of the world I will be involved in. I am so glad I made the decision to come to UP and I cannot imagine being anywhere else.

I plan to complete a three-year Doctor of Physical Therapy program and receive my licensure for the state I will be residing in. I have already applied to a few different schools and am looking forward to hearing back about interview dates!

Being able to peruse a degree in such a beautiful place as well as in an incredible academic environment has meant the world to me. With my father having retired a few years ago, the support of scholarships like this one has made it possible for me to continue to attend College. I chose Willamette due to the welcoming environment and the amazing admission staff who made me feel welcome the moment I stepped on to campus, even before I decided to attend. I also love the nature that is on campus. Having grown up surrounded by trees, it was amazing to see a campus that has such amazing trees and wildlife. I chose Psychology as my major due to my life-long fascination with how we become the people we are when it comes to our identities and our personalities. My father and grandfather were also psychology majors, and I have been interested in the subject for as long as I can remember.

I am planning on taking a gap year to get more field experience in providing support to those in need such as crisis hotlines and community organizations. I am hoping to continue to work with Center for Hope and Safety, which is a nonprofit assisting survivors and victims of domestic violence, stalking, and human trafficking. This is also a year where I can do more research into which grad school I want to attend in order to get a masters in social work, which will take me one step closer to becoming a licensed therapist.
