I chose Bushnell because they were willing to give me an opportunity to compete in track as well as being able to feel the community and welcoming environment even on my short visit.

I chose Corban University less out of my own choice, and more because it chose me. As I was searching for colleges, I had already decided on one that I wanted to go to. But then it just didn't feel right. I was feeling God tell me that's not where He wanted me to go. And eventually I found Corban and fell in love with the community here. The Christian community I have here is truly so special to me. I chose a history degree because, as I thought about what I wanted to do, I realized what I wanted to do is talk about what I love: history. I've been enamored by history since I was young. I would watch YouTube videos about the world wars, ancient empires, and all sorts of stuff. It came naturally to me as a passion and interest. From there, it seemed logical to pursue it because why not apply what you love to your career.

Seek further education. I've been considering it for a while, and that is the plan. I would like to continue my education into grad programs and, Lord willing, become a professor someday. A lot of this will take time to work out, and it may be that something else comes along. As for now, that is my goal.

Unfortunately, the school that I previously attended had to close their doors, and with that, I had to find a different school to continue my education. I didn’t know where to go because I was away from family in New Jersey and wanted to continue going to a Christian school where I can pursue my education and grow in my faith. After a few weeks of prayer and fasting, I got connected to Corban University, and I had no doubt about committing to this school. I love that I get to grow closer to God and my friends in this community and learn about different things from different professors who are intentional and loving. I chose accounting after talking to my advisor about all the future opportunities it will give me. My advisor has poured so much into my life, and I feel encouraged and supported by him and all faculty and staff on campus. I wouldn’t have had this incredible community if I didn’t come to Corban, so I am extremely grateful to be here.

I chose George Fox because I knew I was being called to continue studying here. In the summer of 2023, I was given the chance to be a Liberation Scholar. I stayed two weeks at Fox, learning what it was like to be in the honors program, experiencing what it feels like to live on campus, doing activities, and more. But most of all, I got to feel the presence of God right here on campus. On the last night of the program, we had a worship night, and that was the moment I knew I had to go to this school. I felt peace, and I was so blessed to be surrounded by believers like me. I didn’t know it then, but this became my second home. I love it here more and more, and I can’t wait for what the future holds for me. What I want to do, and what I’ve always wanted to do, is serve others. Last year, I decided to major in Kinesiology. I’ve always loved sports and recreation; it’s always been something I enjoyed growing up. Kinesiology gives me the chance to continue my pursuit of serving others while also being a part of something I love and enjoy.

I plan to take a gap year to build my experience in the medical field. My ultimate goal is to be a Sports Medicine Physician Assistant, and to get there I would like to work as an EMT, Medical Assistant, or Physical Therapist Assistant. I also want to go on mission trips and use the knowledge and gifts of my field to help others. I’ve been going on missions since I was 11, and I don’t want to stop. I want to do whatever I can to help. And God willing, I’ll get the chance to accomplish great things.

The story behind the award is one I have told nearly everyone close to me because of how big the impact was. During the summer, I was truly unsure of how I was going to pay for this semester of college, let alone a year! My car broke down, my phone and wallet were stolen, and my computer crashed during the summer, putting all of the money I worked hard for educational purposes to be spent on this series of unfortunate events. This left me feeling increasingly anxious about what my financial situation would look like. One day in the summer, I noticed an email saying I had been awarded this generous scholarship, and I ended up being completely clear of payments to attend George Fox this year! I am reminded of a verse: Proverbs 11:24 says, “One person gives freely, yet gains even more.” In awarding this scholarship, you have been a significant blessing in my life and have invested in me to pursue a virtuous academic life. Without this scholarship, there is a high chance I would not be here at George Fox today, facing the rigors of the Honors program, making the Cross Country travel team, or becoming an officer of Ratio Christi.

I chose the George Fox communication program because here was where I could see myself truly flourishing. The university itself has a very competitive cross-country team that I have been blessed to be a part of as a runner and as a member of a family. The academics of the communication program have pushed me in many ways, both inside and outside the concentration of Public Relations. One of the reasons I chose to become a Public Relations concentration was due to my visit here as a senior in high school. I knew what I wanted to do with my life, but not exactly which major could equip me in the best way. It turns out that PR is all I could have hoped for and more!

After graduation, I plan to work as a Public Relations agent for Christian missionary organizations, specifically in the area of crisis communication and response. Many times, poor communication and PR have led to the endangerment of missionaries in kidnapping cases or those who are in countries that are closed to Christianity. After building credibility in this aspect of PR, I would like to pursue my own PR business local to the Pacific Northwest, which would specifically fight against the sad, tragic use of humans in sex trafficking, giving a voice and protection to the victims of such evils.

Growing up in McMinnville, I wanted to attend college out of state. Back then, I believed that it was best for me to get away from home. Everything changed when I stepped on campus for the first time as a high school senior. I was amazed at how beautiful the campus was. As I learned more about the class sizes and met some of the professors, I realized that Linfield was the right place for me. I chose the Law, Rights, and Justice major because I have always known I wanted to become an attorney, and it was the best major to prepare me for law school. I was fortunate to have excellent professors who only made me love the major even more. During my four years at Linfield, I have felt seen and heard, and I consider myself fortunate for that.

After graduation, I plan to work at Unidos Bridging Community, a local nonprofit organization, helping the immigrant community during this challenging time. I was lucky to connect with this organization through a Linfield internship. Not many people get to do what they love right after college, and I am grateful to have found a place where I not only enjoy my work but also the people I work with. After a year, I plan to start law school and begin another chapter of my life.

I chose Linfield because it had the best program for my major, and I loved the size of the school. I went to a small high school, so I love how close I get to be with my professors. I chose exercise science because I knew I always wanted to work with athletes. My senior year of high school my close friend ruptured her achilles, and watching her get back into the sport she loved was extremely inspiring.

I plan to go to grad school to get my Master's to become an Athletic Trainer. I'm still deciding on a school but I'm leaning toward OSU.

I chose Pacific University because of its strong College of Business and the small, supportive learning environment that allows me to connect closely with faculty and fully engage in my coursework. Accounting gives me a solid foundation in financial reporting, internal controls, and business decision-making, and it aligns perfectly with my long-term goal of becoming a CPA and working in audit or financial analysis. After graduation, I plan to begin my career in accounting or internal audit while working toward becoming CPA-licensed in my hometown Las Vegas, NV.

College is an immense financial burden, and one that I wasn’t certain I could manage. Relieving this weight, even minimally, is often the difference between whether or not a person considers higher education, as was the case for me. I chose Pacific University because I was passionate about staying in-state, attending a smaller university, and because it offered me the most financial aid. An upside to attending a university with a smaller student population is just how much more of an individualized experience I have received. I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. I didn’t come into college thinking that I would be an English Literature or Philosophy major, let alone both, but after being exposed to the enthusiasm and warmth of my professors, I fell in love with both topics. After that, I decided that these majors help foster the skills I find most important in life.

There’s a possibility that I will continue my education and pursue a master’s degree in order to work in education as a career. I’m also very open to traveling and exploring the world before I settle into a career! No matter what I end up doing, I would love to continue to foster the importance of learning.

I’ve always struggled with academics, even to the point of failure despite my efforts. However, through this experience, I learned the valuable mindset of picking myself back up no matter what. To me, failure will only exist if I don’t otherwise. Receiving this scholarship is a major reflection of the effectiveness of my perseverance, and I thank the Oregon Alliance for recognizing this.

Reed College is arguably one of the toughest academic institutions in the west coast–and to simply put it, I do not belong here, mainly for the reason that I may not be as wise, experienced, or as smart as the Reed standard. Yet, I chose Reed not because I knew I could succeed, but because I knew that I wanted to struggle in the name of growth. Being a Psychology major at Reed College means to understand a diverse view of what it means to study the human mind. I chose this path because I have a strong passion for understanding and helping others no matter how different their lives could be from mine, and utilizing this diverse view of Psychology helps inform me of how I can best support those I interact with.

Pursue a PsyD in order to work as a Clinical Psychologist, but I also plan on being able to work closely with government policy/officials around mental health so that I can best support people at an individual and state/national level.

Since fifth grade I have been interested in computer science and programming, but it wasn’t until my junior year of high school when I realized the beautiful ways math could mesh with it. As for Reed, I honestly only learned about it when I saw it was listed as one of the few major schools in the Pacific Northwest with a Computer Science program. However, after researching more and doing a tour, I realized their culture and teaching methods perfectly aligned with me, and I knew it was perfect for me.

In all honesty, I’m still not entirely certain what I’ll do, but I hope that whatever it is, I can apply the knowledge I’ve gained here, as well as learn more going forward.

I appreciate and thank you for the award of the 2025-26 Costco Wholesale Scholarship. My financial aid, with your assistance, allows me to pursue the degree and topic that I am interested in, furthering my education, and allows me to build a foundation that my career will one day rest upon. While completing this bachelors in biology, I plan to pursue and complete research in the environmental impact of various hazards on our nearby and neighboring protected ecosystems. My studies of these topics are inspired primarily by my parents, who are a social worker and a firefighter respectively; they inspire me to improve the world and lives around me. After completion of this degree, I plan to take my knowledge and experience and apply it to conservation and research under either Oregon Department of Forestry or California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Without your help, I would be unable to pursue the career I’ve dreamed of for the past several years.

When I was first searching for colleges in the midst of the end of my junior year of high school, I stumbled upon Reed College. It was described to me as an Ivy League without the impossibly low acceptance rates and with a wider diversity of students. It also happened to be only a twelve hour drive from my hometown: Richmond, California. I applied to Reed College with crossed fingers, knowing that they don’t like to take stats such as SAT and ACT scores into account, and instead they like to focus on students as they are in all aspects of their life. I didn’t have the most diverse resume to show for my last twelve years of schooling, but I had dreams and a hope to move out of the Bay Area and meet new kinds of people, learn from new perspectives and in new styles. Reed College accepted me, provided me with the financial resources that would allow me to easily attend, and I got my hopes and dreams fulfilled.
Once I made it to Reed College, I had the chance to expand my horizons. I began as a political science major and quickly switched to an environmental science biology major, and then moved to biology as a whole so that I could have a chance to take a wider variety of biology classes. This change of major also allowed me to attend classes unrelated to my major but that were deeply interesting; such as creative writing classes that have helped me refine my short story and character creation skills, and history classes that have expanded my worldwide knowledge of the influence of religion and disasters. I also had the chance to join student organizations, such as the Reed College Night Owls, which is a student job that facilitates a safer campus environment during potentially high-risk events, providing a first point of contact to students in emergency situations, as well as snacks and first aid that students might otherwise go without. This has allowed me to make a positive impact on my campus and community, as well as connect with my peers while also assisting them.

Finally, Reed College has allowed me to meet some of the most amazing people in my life - people who have become my closest friends and confidants. I built a community and a support system that I had been missing for the last several years, and now have a community that I know will continue to assist me as I move forward and upwards. When I enter my career, I will be steady in my knowledge and in my goals, and will continue to improve as my opportunities for growth and learning continue to expand. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude as a recipient of the Costco Wholesale Scholarship. As a son of two immigrant parents, it was extremely important to my parents that all three of their kids pursued higher education. This scholarship is just another reason why I should work even harder. My parents are not the most financially wealthy people, so I understood very early in my life that I needed to do everything possible to make sure they did not have to worry about money. So, I took responsibility for paying for my own college. Although my parents offered to help, I really did not want to place another burden on them as they are already helping pay for the education of my two older brothers. This scholarship is going to help me a lot from a financial perspective.

I chose UP because it is the only college in the Portland area that offers a 4-year nursing program. I found that UP’s nursing program was extremely efficient, and that I could become a registered nurse by the young age of 22. I also wanted to attend a school closer to home to save money and help out my parents. I chose to study nursing because I am in constant awe of and fascinated by medicine. The science and technology of medicine has always interested me. The degree of innovation and invention that humans have created to help heal or treat someone with their disease was something I knew I wanted to be a part of. The second reason is that I wanted to be in a profession that helped people. I knew from a young age that I was meant to help people, whether it was helping them physically or emotionally. I think nursing encapsulates both my ideals of being in the health profession and helping others. Additionally, the nursing career is extremely flexible and has so much variety in terms of what you can experience as a nurse.

Work! My ideal plan is to get a nursing residency in the Portland area so that I am still close to my family. I am currently most interested in either the operating room or the ICU. As of right now, I am unsure whether I would like to pursue goals for even more education such as CRNA or DNP. I know when I first entered nursing school, I had very big aspirations, but as time went on, I found that there are other goals in my life I would like to pursue first. Three of my ultimate goals in my life are to retire my 65-year-old dad, pay off the mortgage to our house, and buy my father a Rolex. Far too long has my dad sacrificed and worked endless nights to ensure my brothers and I were educated and had a roof over our heads. In the far future, I would like to be a hospice nurse and become a nursing instructor. One of my passions that I discovered through university was my love of teaching others. I find the moment when someone learns something to be extremely satisfying.

Growing up in Oregon, I knew I wanted to stay close to home while attending a college where I could truly thrive. University of Portland felt like the perfect fit for me. I chose the nursing field because of my desire to help and give back to others, making a positive impact on people's lives. My interest in science courses and psychology has consistently motivated me toward this path. I recognize the responsibility of being a nurse because I will be directly working with and caring for individuals. I am eager to put forth my best effort and do what it takes to ensure successful outcomes and make patients feel understood.

I hope to work in pediatrics, but I am open to gaining experience in other healthcare settings. I am deeply passionate about advocacy for health equity in minority populations, and I strive to combine efficiency and empathy in my work to achieve the best outcomes for the community that I work with.

I chose WPU because of its strong commitment to diversity, which was important to me as a woman of color. I chose nursing because I have always wanted to be in the medical field and feel called to serve others through healthcare especially those in the BIPOC community who are often overlooked. I hope to be the kind of nurse who can advocate for those who look like me or cannot speak up for themselves.

After graduation, I plan to continue my education and become a nurse practitioner. Over the years, I hope to grow both professionally and personally, providing excellent care, expanding my skills, and improving my life circumstances while continuing to learn and serve as a nurse.

Since moving to the United States in July 2016, I have faced many challenges. When I first arrived, I did not speak English and worked many different jobs, from light to heavy labor, to help build a better life for my family. My husband and I are currently caring for my parents and living together, which makes financial responsibilities especially heavy. Last year, I also experienced the heartbreaking loss of my baby, which left me not only emotionally devastated but also with a large hospital debt to manage. Despite these hardships, I have always believed in the power of education to change lives. I want to continue learning and building a better future for myself and my family. Receiving this scholarship has truly changed my life it has lifted a great burden off my shoulders and allowed me to focus more on my studies without constantly worrying about tuition. Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. Your support gives me the strength and opportunity to keep moving forward toward my educational goals and a brighter future.

I chose Warner Pacific University because it offers a supportive and faith-based learning environment that encourages both personal and professional growth. As a current CNA, I have always enjoyed helping others, but my experience as a patient at the NICU, where my daughter was cared for, deeply changed my perspective. The nurses there supported me not only physically but also emotionally during one of the hardest times in my life. Their compassion and dedication inspired me to follow in their footsteps. That experience made me realize how powerful nursing can be not just in healing the body, but also in comforting the heart. I decided to pursue a nursing degree so that I can make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives, just as those nurses did for me. Attending WPU allows me to gain the knowledge, skills, and values I need to become a compassionate and competent nurse who can truly serve others.

After graduation, I plan to work as a registered nurse in a hospital, ideally in the surgery unit or another department where I can provide skilled and compassionate care to patients. My goal is to use my knowledge and experience to make a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families while continuing to grow as a dedicated healthcare professional.

I want to say "Thank You". This scholarship is part of my life where I can confidently be proud of my education. It showed me how to grow as a person and taught me who I can be with this degree. With the help of others, anything is possible, so thank you. This scholarship is a big blessing to me.

I chose WPU because it was such a small school. I also knew that making friends and getting individual attention from my teacher would work best with my learning style, and it was a school I knew would help me grow my faith. With all these good perks, I decided to go with my major because I had a deep interest in art, as well as knowing how to serve others with my talents and interests by knowing how justice works.

After graduation, I am still unsure where I will be going, but I know that because of Warner, this year I am getting many work opportunities and internships that will help me decide where I would like to further my interests in the workforce.

Although my parents are incredibly supportive of my education, they are unable to financially support me. I am putting myself through college independently, and with the help of financial aid and the generosity of scholarships. This scholarship means I am able to reduce my working hours and focus on my studies and on engaging with my community. In particular, I will be able to spend more time tutoring others in Physics and Math both on and off campus.

Since childhood, I have loved math and physics. I was impressed by the physics program at Willamette, despite it being a small liberal arts college. After I attended Bearcat Day, I knew I had to go here.

Study stellar astronomy in Europe.

This scholarship is incredibly meaningful to me because without scholarships, I would not be able to attend school as I do today. Coming from a very low-income background I was always scared that I would never be able to attend college just based off the cost alone. Thank you.

I chose to attend Willamette because I fell in love with the school the moment I first discovered it, and my love only increased the more I found out about the school, campus, policies, teachings, and community. I am a psychology major, but I am also pre-medicine because it is my lifelong goal to one day become a neurologist. I want to do some good for the science field and I think that Willamette can help me get there.

After graduation I plan on moving straight into grad school to continue on and get my M.D.

This scholarship is incredibly meaningful to me as an independent student from an underprivileged background. The opportunity to attend school has always been up in the air for me, and finally being able to go is a dream come true, especially for my dream career: animation! I chose Willamette due to hearing about their amazing animation programs. In all honesty, seeing the animation Professor Za’s work sold me. I’m very enthusiastic about my future as a student here. Animation has always been something I’ve enjoyed!

After graduation, I plan to work for an indie animation studio, either storyboarding or working with stop motion!
