TUALATIN – The Oregon Alliance of Independent Colleges and Universities is grateful to announce the awarding of eleven Council of Independent Colleges (CIC)/United Parcel Service (UPS) Scholarships to deserving students of its member institutions.

Nationally, CIC, through the CIC/UPS Educational Endowment, provided more than $1.4 million in student scholarships to support student success at private colleges and universities. This year, of the eleven CIC/UPS Scholarships awarded by The Alliance, three were awarded to students of color, two to first-generation students, and five to students who are both students of color and first-generation.

“The Council of Independent Colleges is proud to support nearly 450 low-income, first-generation, minority, and new American students in 26 states through the CIC/UPS Scholarships,” said Marjorie Hass, president of the Council of Independent Colleges. “Through our partnership with The Oregon Alliance of Independent Colleges and Universities, these scholarships help individual students pursue their education at one of Oregon’s superb independent colleges and universities.”

Over the eleven years The Alliance has received the CIC/UPS Scholarship, 134 Oregon students have received this financial aid. Trini Luna Vargas, a senior studying biology at Linfield University and CIC/UPS Scholarship recipient, stated that “[t]his scholarship takes away some financial stress off my shoulders as I try to navigate college as a first-generation student. The process is not easy, but it always uplifts my spirits when I know that there are people in my corner who are rooting for me. So thank you for giving me another reason to push through struggles and for financially supporting my career goals.”
